Flugnir Gathering
Dear Flugnir Icelandic Horse Association of the Midwest Member (current & recent),
Warm greetings from the board of your regional Icelandic horse club. Our organization was founded in 1999 by six dedicated Icelandic horse owners from Minnesota and Wisconsin and was the first regional club recognized by the United States Icelandic Horse Congress. Our purpose has always been to support and educate Icelandic horse owners in the region and “to preserve the uniqueness and integrity of the Icelandic horse.” Flugnir has struggled for several years to find enough engaged members to do the extensive behind the scenes work needed to maintain an active and truly effective organization. Recently, the board of Flugnir Icelandic Horse Association of the Midwest unanimously voted to officially merge with Toppur Icelandic Horse Club. This regional club originated in Iowa but also serves the Icelandic horse community throughout the Midwest. By joining forces with Toppur we will be bigger, stronger and better equipped to support our owners, riders and breeders. We hope you will agree that working together will set the stage for an even brighter future and preserve our rich history of supporting and educating the Icelandic horse community around the Midwest. This merger is a natural progression for two clubs that already serve the same geographic area and share comparable values and commitment to Icelandic horse owners. We want you to continue to enjoy the benefits of a regional club membership under the Toppur banner and hope you will join us at future horse fairs, Icelandic sport shows, obstacle courses, clinics and community events around the upper Midwest. Any active Flugnir member who applies for a 2025 Toppur membership can request that their 2025 annual dues be paid from Flugnir funds. Feel free to contact any board member with questions or concerns regarding this transition as we move forward. In addition, we have specific Minnesota and Wisconsin contacts who will be more than happy to answer any future inquiries, organize local events and continue our mission of preserving the uniqueness and integrity of the Icelandic horse.
